A bicycle tire has an initial volume of 0.30 L at 25°C and a pressure of 1.0 atm. What is the volume of the tire on a mountain where the temperature rises to 35°C and the pressure drops to 0.90 atm?

The volume of the bicycle tire on a mountain for given temperature and pressure is to be determined.

The combined gas law determines the effects of the properties of gas, such as pressure, temperature, and volume simultaneously.

This law can be used to compare the initial and final sets of conditions in a substance as P1V1T1 = P2V2T2

Here, P1, V1 and T1  are the initial pressure, volume and temperature and P2, Va2nd T2 are the final pressure, volume and temperature.

Explanation of Solution

Given information: P1= 1 atm,  V1= 0.3L , T1 = 25°C, P2= 0.9 atm and T=2 35°C

According to the combined gas law, the relation between the volume, pressure and temperature of an ideal gas is as follows:

P1V1T1 = P2V2T2

Substitute P1= 1 atm,  V1= 0.3L , T1 = 25°C, P2= 0
