Summary Introduction

Introduction

Ethnicity is a social identity related to ancestry and culture. Race is a social construct made to help Europeans dominate other peoples. Ethnicity is based partly on language, religion, dress, and history. Race is regarded by many as an unchangeable biological fact, despite the fact that there is little to no biological evidence of a distinction between people of different races.

Answer and explanation

The concept of race was constructed by Europeans to help them dominate other peoples. It perpetuates the myth that some people are less evolved, and so it is ok to treat them in ways a human should never be treated. Race was a crucial element of the Atlantic slave trade and slavery in the United States. Even though race has no biological basis, it is seen as a permanent category. Ethnicity, on the other hand, refers to a way of describing a person based on their culture, language, diet, or other factors. These terms are not mutually exclusive, as shown by the census categories “non-white Hispanic”,” and “white Hispanic,” which are used today in the United States.
