Question
Chapter 11, Problem 1FP
To determine
Explain how the estimation is different from hypothesis testing in terms of decision that researcher make.
Expert Solution & Answer
Answer to Problem 1FP
In estimation decision is not made regarding null hypothesis but it determines whether the population parameter lies within the estimated limits or not.
Explanation of Solution
Justification: In hypothesis testing the decision regarding the null hypothesis is made based on the critical value and test statistic whereas in estimation the decision is not made regarding null hypothesis. In this procedure the estimated confidence interval is calculated and then whether the population parameter lies with the calculated interval or not is determined.
