A girl operates a radio-controlled model car in a vacant parking lot. The girl’s position is at the origin of the xy coordinate axes, and the surface of the parking lot lies in the x–y plane. She drives the car in a straight line so that the x coordinate is defined by the relation x(t) = 0.5t3 − 3t2 + 3t + 2, where x and t are expressed in meters and seconds, respectively. Determine (a) when the velocity is zero, (b) the position and total distance traveled when the acceleration is zero.

- In a hockey game, player A passes the puck to player B, who is standing on the blue line, as shown in the diagram. The y axis is perpendicular to the blue line, and the x axis is parallel to the blue line, as shown. The puck travels a distance d1 = 21.6 m on its way to player B, making an angle θ = 40.8 degrees with the x axis. Player B then passes the puck so that it moves a distance d2 = 6.5 m on the blue line, in the negative x direction. What angle, in degrees, does the total displacement make with the y axis?arrow_forwardA particle is constrained to move upward to the right along the path 2y2=x3+3 where x and y are in inches. The x coordinate of the particle at any time is x=t2-t+4. Determine the y component of the velocity at x=8.7 inches.arrow_forwardTwo runners decided to make an experiment in a 400 meters straight / linear race track. Runner A to run at a speed of 10 Kph and runner B at a speed of 14 Kph. If the two runners are positioned at both ends of the race track and they will tend to pass each other along the midpoint of the track. Calculate the time (in minutes) the two runners will pass each other. The two runners will starts to run from their position at the same time.arrow_forward

Subject: Mechanical Engineeringarrow_forwardQuestion 1 The velocity of a particle which moves along the s-axis is given by s˙ = 53 - 8t2 m/s where t is in seconds. Calculate the displacement Δs of the particle during the interval from t = 0.7 s to t = 3.3 s.arrow_forwardSome asteroid is moving towards a base in space, such that the base is positioned on the xaxis and is 2000 meters wide on the xaxis. This asteroid, moving at 500 m/s along the yaxis, is on a collision course targeted at the center of the base. However, explosives are planted on the asteroid, which makes it explode into two separate pieces. The two separate pieces of a mass of m and 2m. 1. Please draw the trajectory of the CM of the asteroid as well as the system after the explosion (with the two separate masses). 2. At the same time, the two split pieces of asteroid reach the base. The piece with mass, m, passes by the right side of the bass at 1800m from the edge of the bass. Will the asteroid piece with mass, 2m, hit the base? Please prove if it will or will not. 3. The asteroid piece of mass, m, will be moving at a direction that is makes a 30 degree angle along the x axis, and its speed will be 1000 m/s. What is the speed of the split asteroid of mass, 2m?arrow_forward
