Chapter 11.2, Problem 1AWYK
Summary Introduction

To analyze:

The effort applied when a person sits on the edge of the desk with feet off the floor, and the resistance applied on which body part, the location of the fulcrum and the lever in the plantarflexion represent which class.

Introduction:

The muscle exerts the force on the long bones that are called levers. A fixed point on which a lever rotates is referred to as fulcrum. There are different classes of levers based on the position of the fulcrum and the resistance. It is also based on the effort that is applied in between the fulcrum and the resistance.

Students have asked these similar questions
Sit on the edge of a desk with your feet off the floor. Plantarflex your foot. Where is the effort? Where is the fulcrum? Where is the resistance? Which class of lever does the foot represent in plantar flexion?
In thigh flexion at hip, which one is considered the origin? O Proximal end of psoas major Distal end of psoas major Proximal end of vastus lateralis Distal end of vastus lateralis
What muscles originate on the lateral epicondyle? Be specific. What motions occur at the humeroradial joint? Which elbow flexor inserts on the styloid process? What is the function of the annular ligament? Would the wrist extensor muscles be more active with a backhand or forehand in tennis? Is the humeroulnar joint more stable in flexion or extension? Why? What muscles can you more easily see with resisted finger extension?
