Virtual circuits:

• It acts as a medium through which the data transferred over a packet switched computer network. It appears to the customer as the dedicated line in the physical layer that links between the source and destination end systems.
• It has an advantage that the company can purchase limited bandwidth and they can utilize this bandwidth only when there is necessity to transfer the data.
• When the channel is unused, other virtual circuits could use it.
