Concept introduction:
Freezing point depression is principally the colligative feature of anelement. Colligative featuresrest on the number of elements present, and not on the sort of particles or else their mass. Freezing point depression happens when the freezing point of the liquid is brought down by adding an additional compound to it. The solution has a lesser freezing point compare to the pure solvent. For illustration, the freezing point of oceanwater is lesser than that of pure water.
The freezing points of the solutions are directly proportional to the molality of the solute.
Here ∆Tf= the freezing point depression, Tf (solution) = the freezing point of the solution, Tf (solvent)= the freezing point of the solvent, Kf =the freezing point depression constant, and m = the molality.
