Concept explainers
Interpretation:
To suggest the treatment for a patient who has been exposed to excessive carbon monoxide. Also, the reason is to be explained.
Concept Introduction:
Equilibrium rate is highly affected by a change in temperature, the concentration of reactant and product, and the change in volume.
By a change in the concentration of reactant and products, the equilibrium shifts toward the direction which compensates for the effect.
The effect of change in the volume of a container on equilibrium depends on the side of equilibrium having fewer moles. If there is a decrease in the volume, the equilibrium shifts toward the side of the reaction with fewer moles of gas whereas if there is an increase in the volume, the equilibrium shifts toward the side having larger moles of gas.

- Ammonium iodide dissociates reversibly to ammonia and hydrogen iodide if the salt is heated to a sufficiently high temperature. NH4I(s) NH3(g) + HI(g) Some ammonium iodide is placed in a flask, which is then heated to 400 C. If the total pressure in the flask when equilibrium has been achieved is 705 mm Hg, what is the value of Kp (when partial pressures are in atmospheres)?arrow_forwardComplete the changes in concentrations for each of the following reactions: (a) BaSO4(s)Ba2+(aq)+SO42(aq)x (b) Aa2SO4(s)2Ag+(aq)+SO42(aq)x (c) Al(OH)3(s)Al3+(aq)+3OH(aq)x (d) .Pb(OH)Cl(s)Pb2+(aq)+OH(aq)+Cl(aq)x (e) Ca3( AsO4)2(s)3Ca2+(aq)+2AsO43(aq)3xarrow_forwardWhere K = 1.15 x 102 in the equation H2(g) + F2(g) ⇌ 2 HF(g) solve the followinga. When an ICE table is set up and shows the change as some factor of “x,” under what circumstances is “x” so small as to be neglected in calculations (the 5% “rule”). Would that apply to this problem? Make a hypothesis based on the size of K. b. Assume 3.00 moles of all three components are combined in a 1.50 L flask. Show that the equilibrium concentrations of hydrogen and fluorine are both 0.472 M and 5.056 M for hydrogen fluoride. Re-calculate Kusing these values. c. Using the quadratic formula assume 3.00 moles of hydrogen and 6.00 moles of fluorine are introduced into a 3.00 L container. Recalculate K as before and explain why the 5% rule is invalid in this case.arrow_forward
- At 800 K, the equilibrium constant for the reaction A2(g) = 2A(g) is Kc = 3.1 * 10-4.
