Fuentes Salty Snacks, Inc.
Six months ago Fuentes Salty Snacks, Inc. added a new flavor to its line of potato chips. The new flavor, candied bacon, was introduced through a nationwide rollout supported by an extensive promotional campaign. Fuentes' management is convinced that quick penetration into grocery stores is a key to the successful introduction of a new salty snack product, and management wants to determine whether availability of Fuentes' Candied Bacon Potato Chips is consistent in grocery stores across regions of the U.S. Fuentes Marketing department has selected random samples of 40 grocery stores in each of its eight U. S. sales regions:
• New England (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont)
• Mid-Atlantic (New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania)
• Midwest (Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin)
• Great Plains (Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, and South Dakota)
• South Atlantic (Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Washington DC, and West Virginia)
• Deep South (Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Texas)
• Mountain (Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming)
• Pacific (Alaska, California, Hawaii, Oregon, and Washington)
The stores in each sample were then contacted, and the manager of each store was asked whether the store currently carries Fuentes' Candied Bacon Potato Chips. The complete data set is available in the DATAfile named FuentesChips.
Fuentes' senior management now wants to these data to assess whether penetration of Fuentes' Candied Bacon Potato Chips in grocery stores is consistent across its eight U.S. sales regions. If of Fuentes' Candied Bacon Potato Chips in grocery stores differs across its U.S. sales regions, Fuentes' management would also like to identify sales regions in
which penetration of Fuentes' Candied Bacon Potato Chips is lower or higher than expected.
Managerial Report
Prepare a managerial report that addresses the following issues.
2. Use the data from Fuentes' study to test the hypothesis that the proportion of grocery stores that currently carries Fuentes' Candied Bacon Potato Chips is equal across its eight U.S. sales regions. Use

- Jensen Tire & Auto is in the process of deciding whether to purchase a maintenance contract for its new computer wheel alignment and balancing machine. Managers feel that maintenance expense should be related to usage, and they collected the following information on weekly usage (hours) and annual maintenance expense (in hundreds of dollars). Weekly Usage(hours) AnnualMaintenanceExpense 13 17.0 10 22.0 20 30.0 28 37.0 32 47.0 17 30.5 24 32.5 31 39.0 40 51.5 38 40.0 test statistic is 6.90 Find the p-value. (Round your answer to three decimal places.) p-value = State your conclusion. Reject H0. We conclude that the relationship between weekly usage (hours) and annual maintenance expense (in hundreds of dollars) is significant. Do not reject H0. He is concentrating on three late-night flights out of Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in New Delhi, In the last year, 7, 8, and 5 percent of the London, New York, and Singapore flights, respectively have been delayed. Further, 55, 20, and 25 percent of the late-night Fly High flights at IGI are for London, New York, and Singapore destinations, respectively. What type of variable is the dependent variable (situational, response, participant, or mediating)? 5. Is it a nonexperimental or experimental design? Why? For each of the kinds of validity below, what concerns about that type of validity do you have with this study? If you don’t have any concerns about that kind of validity, then explain why you think the study does a good job addressing it. If you would need additional information to evaluate that kind of validity, specify what you would need to know. A. Construct validity B. Internal validity C. External validity D. The director of computer technology in Emerson School District wants to gather information about the use of technology-based instruction in language arts and literature classes in the district's middle schools and high schools. For her study, the director identifies five of the top teachers in these content areas. She visits and observes each teacher's classes on three different days and subsequently interviews each teacher. Then she summarizes the ways that these teachers incorporate the use of technology into their lessons and their students' activities. The director also summarizes teachers' beliefs about the roles of technology in students' learning and motivation. Furthermore, this researcher also claimed that interest in studying English-related subjects (literature, journalism, etc.) was not related to interest in mathematics. However, after reading the article, you believe the findings contradict your experience, and you believe there was a methodological flaw in the analysis. In particular, you believe it was necessary for the researcher to have accounted for another variable: gender. Your plan is to collect a small data set from 2 groups of students. Your research questions are based around the hypothesis that the relationship between interest in mathematics and interest in both academics & English subjects is moderated by gender. Using the same measurement scales for interest as the first researcher, you collect data from two groups. The first group is all…arrow_forward
- An investigator wants to conduct a funded study of the safety of a vaccine to prevent hepatitis C involving prisoners as subjects. Prisoners will receive either vaccine or placebo and then be asked to complete surveys and undergo physical exams to assess for adverse effects. In order to ensure that subjects will report side effects and cooperate with exams, prisoners who are judged by the guards to be most compliant and well behaved are nonrandomly assigned to the experimental arm; others are assigned to the control (placebo) arm. To encourage participation, prisoners are offered better meals and the opportunity for better‑paying jobs in the prison. Are there any aspects of this study that you object to? Why? Identify those objectionable aspects. The guards will sell the vaccines to sick prisoners to supplement their income illegally. This is a non‑randomized clinical trial. This study does not necessarily put the "interest of the subject ahead of the interests of…arrow_forwardUnder what circumstances is it advisable to switch to a between-subjects design instead of using a within-subjects design?arrow_forwardA smartphone manufacturer is so certain of its quality control that it offers a complete replacement warranty if the smartphone fails within 3 years. The warranty does not cover replacement smartphones after the third year. (a) Formulate the evolution of the status of the smartphone as a Markov Chain whose states include two abosrbing states that involve needing to honor the warranty or having the smartphone survive the warranty period.
