Concept Introduction:
Alcohols are soluble in water because it makes hydrogen bonding with water. If the length of the hydrocarbon chain is small it can easily overcome the hydrogen bonding with less energy so water solubility of alcohol increases. If the length of the hydrocarbon chain is long, then it requires more energy to overcome the hydrogen bonding so water solubility of alcohol decreases.
