- All the offspring will be speckled
- 75% of the offspring will be speckled, and 25% will be black
- 50% of the offspring will be speckled, 25% will be black, and 25% will be white

your city. After doing some crosses and genotyping some individuals, you determined that the
number of individuals homozygous dominant for the largest pumpkin allele is 98, 80 are
heterozygous for medium size, and 20 are homozygous recessive for small size. What is the allele

- You decide to breed a pair of guinea pigs, one black and one white. In guinea pigs, black fur is caused by a dominant allele (B) and white is due to homozygosity for a recessive allele (b) at the same locus. Your guinea pigs have seven offspring, four black and three white. What are the genotypes of the parents? Why is there a 1:1 ratio in this cross?arrow_forwardYou are studying a population of penguins in Antarctica. Your DNA analysis of this population reveals that for the feather color pattern gene, 35 individuals are homozygous dominant, 35 individuals are heterozygous, and 30 individuals are homozygous recessive. After observing this population for several years, you repeat your DNA study and find that the current generation of penguins has 15 individuals that are homozygous dominant, 10 individuals that are heterozygous, and 75 individuals that are homozygous recessive. Which of the following hypotheses for this data would be supported by this data based on your understanding of Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium? This population of penguins is maintaining Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium due to its large population size. The penguins are randomly choosing mates, which has led to Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. The penguins are very isolated, which is preventing gene flow from affecting Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. The recessive phenotype in…arrow_forwardA meadow is home to a population of plants of a particular species. Among these individuals are 125 plants that have red flowers and 375 plants that have white flowers. The allele of the flower color gene that produces red flowers (R) is completely dominant over the white flower color allele (r). If a plant with red flower color is crossed with a plant that produces all white flowers, what is the probability that the offspring will include plants that have white flowers? Group of answer choices a. 50% chance b. 75% chance c. 0% chance d. 25% chance e. There is not enough information to say.arrow_forward
- Erma and Harvey were a compatible barnyard pair, but a curious sight. Harvey’s tail was only 6 cm long, while Erma’s was 30 cm. Their F1 piglet offspring all grew tails that were 18 cm. When inbred, an F2 generation resulted in many piglets (Erma and Harvey’s grandpigs), whose tails ranged in 4-cm intervals from 6 to 30 cm (6, 10, 14, 18, 22, 26, and 30). Most had 18-cm tails, while 1/64 had 6-cm tails and 1/64 had 30-cm tails. (a) Explain how these tail lengths were inherited by describing the mode of inheritance, indicating how many gene pairs were at work, and designating the genotypes of Harvey, Erma, and their 18-cm-tail offspring. (b) If one of the 18-cm-tail F1 pigs is mated with one of the 6-cm-tail F2 pigs, what phenotypic ratio will be predicted if many offspring resulted? Diagram the cross.arrow_forwardA scientist studying a species of algae, Gracilaria domingensis, discovered that its color is controlled by a single gene with two alleles. The individuals with a red or green phenotype are homozygous for the red or green alleles and the individuals with a brown phenotype are heterozygous. The scientist crosses two brown individuals. What percent of the offspring from this cross is predicted to be brown? A: 25%B: 50%C: 75%D: 100%arrow_forwardWhich type of breeding is depicted in the picture below? SEE PHOTO ATTACHED A. - Clouded leopards are a medium sized, endangered species of cat, living in the very wet cloud forests of Central America. Assume that the normal spots (XN) are a dominant, sex linked trait and that dark spots are the recessive counterpart. Suppose as a Conservation Biologist, you are involved in a clouded leopard breeding program. One year you cross a male with dark spots and a female with normal spots. She has four cubs and, conveniently, two are males and two females. One male and one female cub have normal spots and one each have dark spots. What is the genotype of the mother? Suppose a few years later, you cross the female cub that has normal spots with a male that also has normal spots. How many of each genotype will be found in the cubs (assume 4)? Will any of the cubs from this latest cross have dark spots?arrow_forwardIn aliens, blue skin is dominant and green skin is recessive. Round bodies are dominant and square bodies are recessive. An alien who is heterozygous for both characteristics is mated with another alien who is purebred for both recessive traits. What is the percent chance of having blue, square-bodied offspring?arrow_forward`You have a purebreeding line of blue frogs and a purebreeding line of red frogs. You cross them and all the F1 frogs are purple. You cross two of the F1 frogs to one another and get 1/4 red offspring, 1/4 blue offspring and 1/2 purple offspring. What phenotypic ratio would you get if you crossed a purple frog to a red frog? Group of answer choices A. 1/2 purple, 1/2 red B. 1/2 purple, 1/2 blue C. 3/4 purple, 1/4 red D. 1/2 blue, 1/2 redarrow_forward
- Two pair of alleles are known to interact in the production of feather color in parakeets. Allele B is needed for Blue pigment, whereas the recessive “b” resulted in lack of color. The dominant C is associated with yellow pigment whereas the recessive allele “c” also resulted in lack of color. Blue and Yellow pigments together produce green feather color. Give the genotype of each of the following A green bird that has a white off spring A yellow bird that has a green parent A blue bird that has two parents A white bird that had a green parent and a blue parent.arrow_forwardThe ratio for offspring in a specific population is .35 Homozygous AA, .20 Heterozygous Aa, .45 Homozygous for aa. If the A gene is dominant orange and the gene is recessive blue what is the phenotype ratio that will be observed from this population?arrow_forwardLet’s suppose that pigmentation in a species of insect is controlled by a single gene existing in two alleles, D for dark and d for light. The heterozygote Dd is intermediate in color. In a heterogeneous environment, the allele frequencies are D = 0.7 and d = 0.3. This polymorphism is maintained because the environment has some dimly lit forested areas and some sunny fields. During a hurricane, a group of 1000 insects is blown to a completely sunny area. In this environment, the fitness values are DD = 0.3, Dd = 0.7, and dd = 1.0. Calculate the allele frequencies in the next generation.arrow_forward
