Concept explainers
Explain the meaning of the terms One-way and between-subjects.
Answer to Problem 1FP
The term one way indicates that only one factor is being observed and the Between-subjects describes that the different participants are being observed at each factor levels.
Explanation of Solution
One way ANOVA:
It is the statistical procedure which is used to compare the means of two or more groups that differs significantly. This design consists of one dependent variable and independent variable with more than 2 levels.
One-way between subjects ANOVA:
It is the statistical procedure that is used to test the hypotheses for the one factor with the two more levels by measuring the variances among two or more means. Moreover it is used when the participants are observed differently at level of the factor with the unknown population variance.
The outcomes for the test statistic of an ANOVA are positively skewed for the distribution. The distribution is determined as the F distribution which is obtained from the sampling distribution of F-ratio.
Justification: The term one way means it considers only one factor in the study being tested and between subjects is determined as the different participants are being observed at the each group and samples are selected independently from one or more population with the unknown population variance.
