Question
Chapter 12.20, Problem 25P
Interpretation Introduction
Interpretation:
The resonance structures for tropylium cation to show the delocalization of the positive charge over all seven carbons are to be drawn.
Concept introduction:
Electrons delocalization is showing in the resonance. More than one Lewis structure can be drawn with the delocalization of electrons. Delocalization of electrons represent the actual structure of the resonance hybrid not a Lewis structure. All possible resonance hybrid can be drawn.
In resonance structure, the connectivity of the atoms must be same, only the electrons change the positions.
Each resonance structure contributes the same number of electrons and have same net charge on the structure.
