Chapter 13, Problem 10MC
Summary Introduction
Introduction:
The viruses that invade the bacterial cell are termed to be bacteriophages. The most common known bacteriophages are T4 bacteriophages. These bacteriophages have a complex icosahedral head that contains the genetic material and tail is a fiber- like hypodermic needle through which they infect the bacteria with their genome.

Why are encapsolated bacteria generally more pathogenic than un-capsolated strains.
a. Because capsule allows the organism to hide in the body of the host.
b. because the capsule causes the phagocyte to mutate c. because the capsule protects bacteria from host immune cells
d. because the capsule kills the phagocytes
e. because the capsule stimulates a potent immune response in the host.
Why are Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections difficult to treat?
A. Because they form biofilms, which are difficult for antibiotics to penetrate.
B. Because they have a special endotoxin that degrades many antibiotics.
C. Because we do not have any antibiotics that target P. aeruginosa.
D. Because they are gram-positive bacteria, which are harder to treat.
Why was it difficult to break the chain of infection during the Zika outbreak?
A. Scientists couldn't figure out how the virus even started.
B. Because scientists hadn't yet realized it was impossible to break the chain of infection.
C. It required killing all the birds in the region.
D. It required killing all of the mosquitos in the region.
