Chapter 13, Problem 20P
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

The fraction of open channels if the channel is tetramer and 1, 2, 3, 4 ligands are bound is to be stated.

Concept introduction:

In T/R ratio, T stands for the tense state and R stands for relaxed state. The activity of enzyme is of two types which are as follows.

  • The activity of enzyme in T state possesses the low affinity for the substrate. Thus, the enzyme shows less catalytic activity.
  • The activity of enzyme in R state possesses the high affinity for the substrate. Thus, the enzyme shows high catalytic activity.

Only a few. Why do only a small number of sodium ions need to flow through the Na+Na* channel to change the membrane potential significantly?
Need help.    A protein X binds Ligand Y. The kon characterizing this binding is 1 x 106 M-1s-1, koff is 2 x 10-3 M-1s-1. In your in vitro X-Y binding experiment, at what concentration of Ligand Y half of the Protein X would be bound to Y. Assume that the binding is according to the Lock-and-key model
