Answer to Problem 52A

Ifgas and liquid are stored in different containers, the volume of liquid remains constant whereas the volume of gas changes depending on the volume of the container.

Explanation of Solution

Introduction: Gas is a state of matter that has free moving particles. It takes the shape and volume of its container. Liquid is a state of matter that has free moving particles but not as free as they are in gas and not as compressed as they are in solid. Liquid also takes the shape of the container that it occupies.

The difference between liquid and gas is that the volume of liquid is constant. It does not change when the heated, cooled down or is poured into some container. Whereas the gas expands to fill the volume of the container..

Conclusion:Volume of liquid remains constant when it occupies the container, whereas volume of gas increases or decreases in the same scenario.
