Concept Introduction:

Ethers are compounds with an oxygen atom bonded with two R groups. Generally, ether is represented as ROR' . Here, R and R' can be aryl, alkyl, or vinyl groups. Nomenclature of ethers can be done by two different methods. The first is to determine the common name where each R group is identified and written in alphabetical order and the word ether is added at the end.

The other method is to determine the systematic name. In this method, a larger group is identified and represented as parent alkane after that smaller group is named as an alkoxy substituent.
