Question
Chapter 13.6, Problem 3MC
Summary Introduction
To determine:
The basis of using a molecular clock to determine when two species diverged from a common ancestor.
Introduction:
Molecular clock used to calculate the time when two species diverged. Molecular clock can calculate the rate of mutations that occur long ago. DNA is a biological molecule that functions as a ‘clock’. If DNA can be used as a molecular clock, biologists are able to identify the rate of mutation in a gene and the count of differences in the DNA sequence for that gene in two species.
