Explanation of Solution

When light strikes on a certain metal surface due to the high frequency of light, the electrons are ejected from that metal surface. This phenomenon is called the photoelectric effect. Lower frequency lights such as red, couldn't initiate this ejection of electrons. The electrons are ejected only if high-frequency light is used.

Einstein's explanation was that the electrons in the metal are bombarded by the particles of light. These particles of light are called photons. Einstein stated that the energy of each photon is proportional to its frequency Ef .

Conclusion:

Therefore, correct option for the statement “In the equation E=hf , f stands for the” is option (a).
