Textbook Question
Chapter 14, Problem 14.26CP
For the following computer problems, any appropriate software may be used. Input prompts should fully explain what is required of the user (the program should be user-friendly). The resulting output should be well labeled and self-explanatory.
14.26 Write a program that may be used to calculate the maximum bending stress and the maximum horizontal shear stress for a simply supported single-span timber beam that carries a uniformly distributed load. User input is to be uniformly distributed load intensity, span, and the nominal dimensions of the cross section. (Use nominal dimensions for the calculations and assume a unit weight for the timber of 35 pcf.)

A timber beam is 120 mm wide and 200 mm deep and is used on a span of 4 metres. The simply supported beam carries a uniformly distributed load of 2.8 kN/m run over the entire length. Calculate the maximum bending stress induced.
Draw the shear-force and the bending-moment diagrams and specify the maximum values and their locations on the beam.
only Handwitten answer needed please. do not type
Select the lightest-weight wide-flange beam with the shortest depth from Appendix B that will safely support the loading shown. The allowable bending stress is sallow = 24 ksi and the allowable shear stress of tallow = 14 ksi.
