The Andromeda Galaxy is 2 million light years away from the Milky Way. How far away is the Andromeda Galaxy?
The distance to the Andromeda Galaxy is estimated at about 2 x 106 light years. A light year is the distance traveled by light in one year; if the speed of light is 3 x 108 m/s, about how far is it from our galaxy to Andromeda.
On a 1-to-10^19 scale our Milky Way galaxy would just about fit on a soccer field. On this scale, how far is the distance from the sun to alpha centauri (one of the closest stars to the sun, at a distance of 4.4 light years).
