The hypothalamus is present in the brain between the optic chiasm and the mammillary bodies. The infundibulum connects the hypothalamus to the pituitary gland. The functions and roles of the hypothalamus include secretion of the hormones, thermal regulation of the temperature, coordination and connection between the nervous system and the endocrine system, skeletal muscle movements and the control of various biological rhythms.
