Question
Chapter 14.14, Problem 2MQ
Summary Introduction
Dissimilative iron reducers are commonly seen in anoxic freshwater as well as marine sediments. Iron oxidizing bacteria are classified under the phylum of Proteobacteria. The genera Shewanella and its relatives are classified under the group of Gammaproteobacteria. In addition to compounds such as manganese and ferric iron, Shewanella can use a wide range of electron donors and acceptors.
