The fight-or-flight response is a sympathetic response that occurs due to release of certain hormones from adrenal medulla. The autonomic nervous system (ANS) enhances this response in the situation of emotional or physical stress. During such situations, the sympathetic division of the ANS dominates the parasympathetic nervous system.
