Given:

Mass of the car (m) is 950 kg.

Drag coefficient (CD) is 0.32.

Frontal area of the car (A) is 1.8 m2.

Coefficient of rolling resistance (CRR) is 0.04.

The speed of car (V) varies from 0km/h to 150km/h.

Density of air (ρa) is 1.20kg/m3.

The maximum power output of the engine is 80 kW.

Calculation:

Calculate the rolling resistance of the car.

  FRR=CRRW=CRR(mg)=(0.04)(950kg×9.81m/s2)=327.78N

When the velocity of the air over the car is 30km/h.

  V=30km/h

Calculate the drag resistance of the car.

  FD=(0.32)(1.8m2)(1.20kg/m3)(30km/h×1000m1km×1h3600s)22=24N

Calculate the power required to overcome rolling resistance.

  Wrolling=FRRV=(327.78N)(30km/h×1000m1km×1h3600s)=3106.5W=3.1065kW

Calculate the power required to overcome drag resistance.

  Wdrag=FDV=(24N)(30km/h×1000m1km×1h3600s)=200W=0.20kW

Calculate the total power required to overcome the combined drag and rolling.

  Wtotal=Wrolling+Wdrag=3.1065kW+0.20kW=3.3065kW
