Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation: The number of signals and the number of protons giving rise to each signal in the ${}^{\text{1}}\text{H}$NMR spectrum of the given compounds have to be identified.

Concept Introduction:

${}^{\text{1}}\text{H}$ NMR spectroscopy:

It is the study of the interaction between electromagnetic radiation and the nuclei of atoms and the variety of nuclei studied includes ${}^{\text{1}}\text{H,}{}^{\text{13}}\text{C,}{}^{\text{15}}\text{N,}{}^{\text{19}}\text{F}\text{and}{}^{\text{31}}\text{P}$

Chemical equivalence:

The number of different kinds of protons in different electronic environments causes the number of signals in a ${}^{\text{1}}\text{H}$ NMR spectrum.

If the protons are in identical electronic environments, then they are said to be chemically equivalent and they produce only one signal.
