Chapter 16, Problem 11TYU
Summary Introduction
Introduction: The inheritance patterns for the inheritance of traits are autosomal dominant or recessive, or sex-linked. The traits due to the genes on autosomes are inherited in a simple Mendelian pattern; they can be dominant or recessive. An autosomal dominant trait appears in individuals with a dominant allele, whether they are homozygous or heterozygous. An autosomal recessive trait appears in individuals that are homozygous for the recessive allele.

Albinism is inherited as a recessive trait in humans. If the parents are both heterozygous for the trait, what is the probability of obtaining the following:
a. 3 albino children?
b. 2 normal girls?
c. 4 albino boys?
d. first 4 children will be normal and the last 2 children will be albino?
e. 4 normal children and 2 albinos in any order?
What features of a pedigree would distinguish between a Y-linked trait and a trait that is rare, autosomal dominant, and sex-limited to males?
This pedigree traces the inheritance of a trait in humans.
Based on this pedigree, is the allele for this disease dominant or recessive? Is it sex-linked? Explain.
What genotypes are most probable for the individuals labeled 4, 7, and 10?
