The neurotransmitter acetylcholine is produced by the preganglionic neurons of both sympathetic and parasympathetic divisions and the postganglionic neurons of only parasympathetic division. Every nerve fiber that excretes ACh is considered as a cholinergic fiber and the receptor which binds it is known as cholinergic receptor.
