Question
Chapter 16, Problem 1CC-P441
Summary Introduction
Introduction
Herrnstein and Murray claimed that intelligence is an inherited trait, and that black people scored lower on IQ tests due to genetics. Later analysis proved that wrong and suggested social reasons for differing average IQ scores. People who are poor and oppressed have less opportunity to get a quality education because the worst schools are in the poorest areas. The Burakumin in Japan have lower average IQ scores despite no genetic difference from other Japanese people. The evidence is compelling that social conditions can influence IQ scores.
