The difference in the physical universe if the proton is negatively charged while the electron is positively charged.

Expert Solution & Answer
Check Mark

Answer to Problem 1QAP

There wouldn't be any difference in the universe if the proton was negatively charged and the electron was positively charged.

Explanation of Solution

Introduction:

Interaction between electron and proton is due to charges.

The charge on electron and proton was decided by convention. It was merely a choice that it was decided that the electron is a negatively charged particle and the proton is positively charged particle. Even if we exchange the charges on electron and proton, the like charges will still repel and unlike charges will still attract. The designation of charges as positive and negative is merely a definition. Hence, there won't be any difference in the universe if the protons were negatively charged particles and the electrons were negatively charged particles.

Conclusion:

Thus, there won't be any difference in the universe if the protons were negatively charged and the electrons were positively charged.
