Textbook Question
Chapter 16, Problem 1RQ
What type of product would be considered to be a prospect for powder metallurgy manufacture?
Expert Solution & Answer
To determine
The products that are prospect to powder metallurgy.
Explanation of Solution
Powder metallurgy is the technique to Powder metallurgy need no metal removal after its completion so cost of product is less and no yield present in the product. Tungsten carbide that is the most useful product in many engineering application is made by the powder metallurgy process. Powder metallurgy consists of blending, compaction and sintering. For precision some secondary processes like heat treatment and coining are provided.
The products that are prospect of powder metallurgy are as follows,
- Bigger size metallic glasses.
- Metallic forms.
- Alloys that are used for oxide dispersion.
- Throated tungsten.
- Magnetic material.
- Crystalline material.
