Interpretation Introduction
Interpretation:
The IUPAC name of isobutane is to be given.
Concept Introduction:
Straight chain
Branched-chain alkanes contain a branch of a group on the carbon chain. The name of a branched-chain alkane is written with the branch name in alphabetical order along with the position followed by the name of the longest continuous chain of carbon atoms.
The longest chain is numbered in such a way that the position of the branched group comes at the lowest number.
Alkyl groups are groups obtained by removing a hydrogen atom from an alkane.
