Concept Introduction:
Atherosclerosis occurs when the blood vessels that carry oxygen and nutrients from heart to the rest of body become thick and stiff sometimes restricting blood flow to organs and tissues.
Healthy arteries are flexible and elastic but over time the walls in arteries can harden, a condition commonly called hardening of the arteries.
Low density lipoproteins (LDL): It consists of more cholesterol than triglycerides and protein. Because it contains fewer lipids and more protein in comparison to VLDL, its densityis greater.
Functions:LDL is responsible for carrying cholesterol to cells that need it. Elevated LDL levels are associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease.
