Question
Chapter 17, Problem 1RC
Summary Introduction
Introduction:
Preganglionic neurons are found between T1 (neurons of the thoracic region) and L2 (neurons of the lumbar region) of the spinal cord. Cell bodies of these neurons are located at the lateral horn of the spinal cord between T1 and L2. Their axons enter the ventral root of these segments.

Where is the anterior (ventral) root located in the sequence of structures through which motor impulses pass as they descent from the brain and leve the spinal cord?
A. Between anterior (ventral) gray horn and spinal nerve
B. Between spinal nerve and posterior (dorsal) root ganglion
C. Between anterior (ventral) gray horn and posterior (dorsal) gray horn
D. Between white column and posterior (dorsal) gray horn
What is the function of the dorsal roots of the spinal cord?A. They receive sensory input.B. They control motor output.C. They convey information from the brain to the spinal cord.D. They convey information from the spinal cord to the brain.
(a) What are the superior and inferior boundaries of the spinal cord in the vertebral canal? (b) A correctly executed lumbar spinal tap could poke the cauda equina or filum terminale, but not the conus medullaris. Explain.

- Wallace is the victim of a hunting accident. A bullet grazed his vertebral column, and bone fragments severed the left half of his spinal cord at segments T8 through T10. Since the accident, Wallace has had a conditioncalled dissociated sensory loss, in which he feels no sensations of deep touch or limb position on the left side of his body below the injury, and no sensations of pain or heat from the right side.
