Concept explainers
A second propeller, identical to the one above, has also been damaged by an impact. This time, however, the damage is in the form of a crack at the base of one of the blades, as shown in the figure. Since the crack does not penetrate into the hub, it is proposed that a repair be made using some form of welding or brazing process. Would you recommend such a repair? If so, how would you suggest the repair be made? Explain the rationale for your recommendations and outline the procedure that should be followed. Would there be any sacrifice in quality or performance with the repaired propeller?

- Provide a reasonable explanation for the following observation: a welded component made of Al 6061-T6 alloy is routinely found to deform plastically first in the region adjacent to the weld joint despite the fact that the stress is nominally the same everywhere in the component. What solution would you propose to fix this problem, assuming that the weld joint cannot be eliminated from the design?arrow_forwardFor symmetric and large circular section which pattern is preferred? The main part of the product consists of a polyurethane sponge. Stain-proof upholstery fabric will be used as the outer surface material. In addition, there are heating pads working with the logic of electric blankets in this apparatus, please answer by taking these into account when answering.arrow_forward

- It has been reported that gas–tungsten arc welds of aluminum made in the overhead position (assumed lap weld joint) tend to have a significantly higher porosity level than those made in the flat position: Explain why Sketch the general view of the overhead position Indicate where the (most probable) location of the porosityarrow_forwardCoupling will be used in the drive mechanism of the roles used in the Continuous Casting plant. The moment to be transmitted is high, the transmission distance is about 1500 mm, and there are fluctuations in the bending direction. Which type of coupling is best suited to absorb these fluctuations? Explain broadly the features of this coupling.
