A miniature spectrometer used for chemical analysis has a diffraction grating with 800 slits/mm set 25.0 mm in front of the detector “screen.” The detector can barely distinguish two bright lines that are 30 pm apart in the first-order spectrum. What is the resolution of the spectrometer at a wavelength of 600 nm? That is, if two distinct wavelengths can barely be distinguished, one of them being 600.0 nm, what is the wavelength difference ∆λ between the two?

- A Fraunhofer diffraction pattern is produced on a screen located 1.00 m from a single slit. If a light source of wavelength 5.00 107 m is used and the distance from the center of the central bright fringe to the first dark fringe is 5.00 103 m, what is the slit width? The distance between the slits is 0.0700 mm, and the distance to the screen is 2.50 m. The intensity of the central maximum is 6.50 106 W/m2. What is the intensity at y = 0.500 cm? TABLE P35.80arrow_forwardCoherent light rays of wavelength strike a pair of slits separated by distance d at an angle 1, with respect to the normal to the plane containing the slits as shown in Figure P27.14. The rays leaving the slits make an angle 2 with respect to the normal, and an interference maximum is formed by those rays on a screen that is a great distance from the slits. Show that the angle 2 is given by 2=sin1(sin1md) where m is an integer.arrow_forward

- QUESTION 9 In a Young’s Double Slit Experiment light passes through two narrow slits of ? = 0.8 ??. The distance from double slit to the screen is 1.6 m. The distance from central fringe to the nth fringe is 5 cm. The wavelength of the light is 625 nm. The path difference correspond to A. a minimum B. a position between maximum and minimum. C. a maximum D. a maximum and minimumarrow_forwardMonochromatic light with a wavelength of 500 nm passes through a double-slit with a slit separation of 1.6 mm and slit width of 0.2 mm, landing on a screen that is 3 m away. Each diffraction minimum is coincident with an interference maximum. What is the maximum intensity (relative to the maximum intensity of the central diffraction peak) of the double-slit diffraction pattern outside the central diffraction peak? Provide your answer as a percentage of the maximum intensity Im.arrow_forwardLight of wavelength 500 nm diffracts through a slit of width 2.00 mm and onto a screen that is 2.00 m away.
