Chapter 17.1, Problem 1RQ
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

The main idea about the collision theory is to be explained.

Concept introduction:

The collision theory consists of three main parts:

  1. The reactants in a chemical reaction must be reacting in a particular order.
  2. These reactants must be reacted with enough amount of energy.
  3. The reactants should react with each other in correct orientation.

Answer to Problem 1RQ

The collision theory is used to predict the rates of the chemical reaction. So, according to the collision theory, the rate of a reaction is equal to the frequency of effective collisions and the molecules of reactants are reacting in a particular order.

Explanation of Solution

The collision theory is used to predict the rates of the chemical reaction. To bring the change of a chemical reaction, the reactants react with each other with a particular minimum amount of internal energy which is known as the activation energy of the reaction.

On the basis of the collision theory reaction rate becomes equal to the frequency of effective collisions.

Conclusion

This can be concluded that the reactants react with each other with a certain amount of internal energy which is the activation energy of the reaction and its rate of reaction is equal to the effective collision.
