To explain: The reason that cleavage divisions take place without significant increase in the weight of the embryo as a result of short cell cycles that are shorter than those of bacterial fission time.
Introduction: The male and female gametes unite to form the zygote. The zygote then undergoes series of cell divisions called cleavage to develop into a multicellular organism. Cleavage is a process of repeated mitotic divisions where the enormous amount of cytoplasm is distributed to form several small cells. Here, the weight of the embryo does not change.
