Explanation Electrochemistry is the study of the relation between chemical change and electric energy. Oxidation is the process whereby reactant loses one more electrons. Reduction is the process whereby reactant gains one more electrons. Oxidation and reduction are simultaneous process and is called redox reaction. Electrochemistry involves either the use of an oxidation reduction reaction to produce an electric c current or the use of an electric current to produce an oxidation reduction reaction. Any material that conducts electrons in an electrochemical cell and thereby electrochemical reaction is occurred, such kind of materials are called electrodes. There are two types of electrodes, cathode and anode. Cathode: which is always positive and the reduction of chemicals are occurred at this electrode. Anode: which is always negative and the oxidation of chemicals are occurred at this electrode. Electrochemistry is the study of the relation between electric energy and chemical change or it can be defined as electrochemistry is the study of production of electricity from energy released during spontaneous chemical reaction and the use of electrical energy to bring about non-spontaneous chemical transformations. The reaction carried out electrochemically can be energy efficient and less polluting. Study of electrochemistry is important for creating new technologies that are eco-friendly. The conversion of chemical energy into the electrical energy is occurred in an electrochemical cell such as galvanic cell. In an electrochemical cell there are, two electrodes, electrolytes and salt bridge. Any material that conducts electrons in an electrochemical cell and thereby electrochemical reaction is occurred, such kind of materials are called electrodes.
