Textbook Question
Chapter 18, Problem 4RQ
Create an algorithm to determine whether a given Mach number (actual speed divided by the speed of sound) is subsonic, transonic, supersonic, or hypersonic. Assume the user will enter the speed of the object in meters per second, and the program will calculate the Mach number and determine the appropriate Mach category. As output, the program will display the Mach category. The algorithm should include a check to ensure the user entered a positive value. If a nonpositive value is entered, the program should warn the user and terminate. The speed of sound is about 343 m/s. The classifications are as follows:
Subsonic < Mach 1
Transonic = Mach 1
Mach 1 < Supersonic < Mach 5
Hypersonic ≥ Mach 5

(If relevant) A clearly labeled diagram (or diagrams) clearly pertaining to your analysis with a coordinate system and relevant labels.
Final answer with appropriate units and significant figures. You can use the fprintf() command in MATLAB to format numerical results
A 2-3 sentence reflection on your answer. Does it make sense? Why or why not? What are some implications?
Suppose your CFD code can handle nonelementary blocks. Combine as many blocks of Fig. as you can. The only restriction is that in any one block, the number of i-intervals and the number of j-intervals must be constants. Show that you can create a structured grid with only three nonelementary blocks. Renumber all the blocks and indicate how many i- and j-intervals are contained in each block. Add up all the cells and verify that the total number of cells does not change.

- Please include a kinamatic diagram (for velocity) Please DO NOT solve this using velocity analysis (cartesian vector analysis). I would like it to be solved using scalar method. We dont use 3D in this course. We only use scalar analysis for the relative velocity equation as requested in the question (writing the x and y components of the equation and solving the equations for the unknowns). Below I have attached a sample question with solution in order to get an idea on how to use the scalar method to solve my question. I would like question this to be solved in a similar way. Thank you for your understanding. If you can solve it as soon as possible that would be great and I will give you a thumps up and positive feedback :)arrow_forwardMy professor said that I need to use the numbers as shown on the picture and make the exact graph that is also shown on the picture. - As the potential across the resistor increased, the current through the resistor increased. If the change in current is proportional to the voltage, the data should be in a straight line and it should go through zero. In these two examples how close is the y-intercept to zero? Is there a proportional relationship between voltage and current? If so, write the equation for each run in the form potential = constant x current. (Use a numerical value for the constant.)arrow_forwardMatlab code please or just some stepping stones to help.arrow_forwardHi, I need help with the first part of the problem below because I'm very confused about how P1 and P2 should be calculated. If you look at my notes to solve the problem there is already a formula in place as I always thought the Patm should also be multiplied by the Area in the numerator, but it's not if I look at this specific tutorial solution given by my course but it's not explained why. I have done a while ago a very similar problem with using that formula in my notes and it gave me the right results, but it's not working for this one. Could you please help me understand why as I have a test coming soon? Figure Q3 (see image attached) shows a cylinder and pistonenclosing air, the movement of the pistonbeing restrained by a compression spring ofstiffness 20 kN/m. The air is heated andexpands, the piston moving 0.3 m.
