Chapter 18.10, Problem 1CR
Summary Introduction

Chytrids belong to the earliest diverging lineage of group Fungi. Members of chytrids are both free-living such as Allomyces and parasites of plants, animals, and other protists. Microsporidia are small, microscopic unicellular parasites of protists and animals. Members of Microsporidia form spores and behave as obligate intracellular parasites of vertebrates and invertebrates.

Describe the characteristics of fungi that would traditionally been classified in the Boletales. Describe, in general terms, some of the problems with the traditional classification of the “pored mushrooms” given what we know about fungal evolution. Describe some of the different hymenophore configurations found within the Boletales.
Tue or False: Most fungi secondarily lack flagellated cells in their life history and this places the monophyly of the supergroup to which they belong, in doubt, as these extant fungi no longer have the synapomorphy of the supergroup
What is the name of the description of these fungi? 1. members of this phylum can produce spores through two kinds of sporangia, one of which is known as a conidium.                                                                               2. this phylum contains organisms that most closely resemble the common ancestor of fungi                                                                                      3. a member of this phylum includes the mold Rhizopus stolonifer                                                                                       4. reproduces only sexually
