Chapter 19, Problem 2CRCAQ
Summary Introduction
To review:
The concept of myocardial infarction its causes and its effects on the heart rhythm.
Introduction:
The heart is the hollow and muscular organ of the body that functions as a pump to circulate the blood throughout the body. The human heart results in double circulation as the right side of the heart receives deoxygenated blood throughout the body and simultaneously the left side of the heart transfer oxygenated blood from the heart to body parts and results in double circulation.

Before Rashidah is discharged from the hospital, her care team informs her that she may experience stable angina, a form of chest pain, in the future. Briefly explain how angina is different from the pain associated with a myocardial infarction.
Another patient had an abnormal heart sound that indicated a stenotic valve. Define this condition, and contrast it with an incompetent heart valve.
Select the best answer or answers from the choices given: In the heart, which of the following apply? (1) Action potentials are conducted from cell to cell across the myocardium via gap junctions, (2) the SA node sets the pace for the heart as a whole, (3) spontaneous depolarization of cardiac cells can occur in the absence of nerve stimulation, (4) cardiac muscle can continue tocontract for long periods in the absence of oxygen. (a) all of the above, (b) 1, 3, 4, (c) 1, 2, 3, (d) 2, 3.

Order the sentences (Hint: End with "g") This question is a great summary of what happens, in steps, in congestive heart failure. a. narrowed bicuspid valve makes the L atrium pump harder in order to "push" blood into the L ventricle through an opening that is too narrow. b. pressure of the extra, backed up blood in the lung creates pressure in the capillaries that begin to leak fluid into the lung. c. extra "left-over" blood in the atrium that has not descended into the ventricle after a beat has nowhere to go. d. congenital heart defect causes a narrowed bicuspid valve e. not all blood gets "pushed" from the L atrium to the L ventricle during a regular heart beat f. blood that backed up in the L atrium with nowhere to go backs up further, into the pulmonary veins and eventually into the lung g. the patient gets less oxygen with each breath, feels tired all the time and is…arrow_forwardYour 70-year-old neighbor, Mr. Michael, tells you he has been diagnosed with a second degree heart block. - Angina pectoris is a symptom rather than a disease. It's Latin name translates to "pain in the chest." Angina pectoris occurs when the muscle tissue of the heart does not have enough oxygenated blood, resulting in discomfort or pain under the sternum. Do an online search and answer the follow questions: 1. What disease(s) causes angina pectoris? 2. What happens during an angina episode? 3. What type of treatment might be prescribed by the physician? 4. What tests might be ordered by the physician to determine the cause for angina pectoris? TRUE FALSE STATEMENTS When the atrioventricular bundle is completely interrupted, the ventricles typically contract at 30 to 40 beats/minute. The left ventricular wall of the heart is thicker than the right wall in order to pump blood with a greater pressure. Impulses through the conduction system of the heart follow the ordered path SA Node ->Conduction Myofibers ->AV Bundle ->AV Node.arrow_forward
