Explanation of Solution

Given info:

Area of a solar cell, A=3cm2

Current delivered by a cell, I=350mA

Formula Used:

Write the expression to calculate the number of cells required to create the panel.

  n=TotalrequiredvoltageVoltageacquiredbyacell......... (1)

Calculation:

Substitute the values in equation (1).

  n=1200.80=150

Since, a cell can deliver 350mA and a solar panel can deliver 1A current at 120 V. So, calculate the number of solar panels required to deliver 1 A current.

Where,

  • Iris the required current.
  • Nis the number of solar panels.

Substitute the values in equation (2).

  1=N×350×103N=1350×103=2.853

So, the total numbers of panels required is 3. Calculate the total cells required to create the panel.

  Cellrequired=3×150=450

Therefore, the total 450 cells are required to create the panel.

Calculate the area acquired by the panel.

  Area=450×(3×102)2m2=0.4050m2

From the above, it is clear that the maximum power can be optimize when the series of panels are connected in parallel.
