Definition of the terms bioluminescent, colony, and alternation of generation.

Explanation of Solution

Bioluminescent is a characteristic of an organism that is involved in the production and emission of s distinct type of light. It is present in many marine organisms and some bacteria and fungi.

Colony is a group of microorganisms, which is visible and originate from the same mother cell. As the mother cell of the microbe present in a colony is the same, all the cells in the colony are genetically the same.

Alternation of generations is referred to as a phenomenon, which occurs in many organisms, mostly in plants, in which they have two different life forms in a single life cycle. Plant showing alternation of generations can exist in two phases, gametophyte and sporophyte.
