Concept explainers
To define:
Chloroplasts.
Introduction:
Eukaryotic cells contain the tiny units in its cytoplasm is called cell organelle such as nucleus, mitochondria, chloroplast, endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi apparatus. Thus, chloroplasts are one such cell organelle. They are exclusively present in present in green plants cells which perform the function of photosynthesis.
Explanation of Solution
Chloroplast is a type of plastids. It is a cell organelle present only in the green plant cells. Each chloroplast is enclosed by a unit or double membranes. The ground substance or matrix is present within the inner membrane. It is called stroma. It is alkaline aqueous fluid contains enzymes for the carbon dioxide reduction into sugar (carbohydrate). Chloroplast contains the thylakoid membrane, which contains chlorophyll molecules. Along with mitochondria, chloroplast has its own DNA.
Chloroplasts are cell organelles only present in the green cells. Each chloroplast is enclosed in a unit membrane and do photosynthesis due to presence of the pigment chlorophylls.
