Chapter 19.3, Problem 2AYLO
Summary Introduction
To discuss:
The properties of cardiac muscle related to its nearly exclusive reliance on aerobic respiration.
Introduction:
Cardiomyocytes are the basic and functional units of the heart. These cells constitute to form the majority of heart tissues along with collagen and elastic fibers. These cardiomyocytes are primarily involved in aerobic respiration to produce more ATP, which is the energy currency for the function of most of the organ and its physiology. Such aerobic respiration procured by cardiomyocytes is well documented here.
