Chapter 19.4, Problem 13COQ
Summary Introduction

To explain: The use of probes in screening DNA libraries.

Introduction:

DNA library is collection of DNA fragments that cloned in a vector, there are two kinds of libraries genomic DNA and cDNA libraries. Genomic library is a collection of total genomic DNA from single organism, the DNA is stored in the vector, each vector contained different inserted DNA. The cDNA contain all cloned cDNA fragments are inserted into the host cell, which combined and makes some portion of the transcriptome of the organism.

Summary Introduction

To explain: The preparation of synthetic probe when the protein product of the gene is known.

Introduction:

Synthetic probe is fragment of DNA; RNA of variable length approx 1001000bp used to screen a DNA library, probes can be labeled with radioactive compound to detect the location of the probe.
