Concept Introduction:

Hydrate formation: when a gas molecule are tapped in a lattice of water molecule at temperature above 00 Celsius and pressure above 1 atm .they can form a stable solid, these solid are called Hydrates. Most gaseous Hydrates are formed from the CH4 .

When an aldehyde or ketone is treated with water the carbonyl group can be converted into a hydrate. The equlillibrium generally favours the carbonyl group, except some case like aldehyde or ketone containing electron with drawing substituent.
