Microbial infections have been known to humans since many years. Some of these infections have existed since centuries and they keep occurring from time to time. Such diseases are called ‘re-emerging diseases’. In contrast, some infectious diseases were unknown to humans until a few decades ago. They have made a recent appearance in the world, and are known as ‘emerging diseases’.
