Question
Chapter 2, Problem 12P
Summary Introduction
To distinguish:
Between an ion and a polar molecule.
Introduction:
An ion is formed by the gain or the loss of an electron from the outer electronic shell. The polar molecule is formed in the molecules joined by a covalent bond. The atoms have electro-negativity difference, which is the ability to attract the cloud of the electrons. This causes the unequal sharing of the electronic cloud between the atoms. This causes the formation of the polar molecule.
The atom which attracts the electrons develops a partial negative charge and the atom which repels the electronic cloud develops a partial positive charge.
